The importance of regular dental check-ups

A regular dental check-up will ensure that any potential dental issues are quickly identified and treated before they can turn into painful and highly expensive permanent treatment options.

Oral hygiene is a highly underestimated issue among many people and they do not realise the importance their teeth and oral health has on their body image. A lot of people only visit their dentist when they have a problem that is causing them pain but it should be considered that many of these problems could probably have been avoided if the problem was detected at an earlier stage before pain had a chance to arise. It may also mean less treatment which is less stressful and often less expensive.

Why Is Oral Hygiene So Important?

Keeping our mouths hygienic and presentable not only offers us a helping hand in looking our best but it can help prevent many problems, not only orally but in general health as well. Gum disease, if left untreated can lead to some very serious problems such as heart disease, infections and loss of bone mass so maintaining oral hygiene should be an integral part of life as important as a balanced diet and exercise regime.

If you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, it’s best to see dentist sooner than later as gums disease, bleeding gums escalate during pregnancy. Women with poor oral hygiene may give birth to preterm or low weight babies.

People with poor oral hygiene especially chronic smoker, obese with bad blood cholesterol are in risk of getting heart attack. Research has shown that there is link between gums disease with heart attack and diabetes. So, indirectly, if you are maintaining good oral hygiene then you are lowering the risk of getting heart problem and your blood sugar will be easy to control.

PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN CURE

In this 21st century, we can prevent from getting new cavities, thanks to fluorides in water, toothpaste, professional fluoride application and tooth mousse; we can also remineralise early cavities. By brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, correct dietary regime, we can prevent gums disease, dental cavities and even dental erosion.

We can now also prevent dental trauma from fall or injury by wearing customized mouthguard especially for kids and sports player.

Lastly, dentistry is affordable, if you don’t wait too long. So, don’t put it up, you can book appointment with one of our friendly dentist at Village Dental Haymarket, Sydney CBD, Village Dental Meadowbank and Village  Dental Kogarah .
